Corewell Health Athletic Trainer in Grand Haven, Michigan

Job Summary

Provides professional assistance and clinical support to health care professionals to ensure the delivery of quality, evidence based health care services. Develops, implements, and maintains comprehensive health care programs for patients, clients, and athletes. The practice of athletic training includes injury/illness prevention and wellness protection, clinical assessment and impression, immediate and emergency care, treatment and rehabilitation, and organizational and professional health and well-being of individuals under the direction of a physician. Utilizes patient assessment skills and collaborates with all health team members to ensure the most optimal patient outcome. Actively assists the surgeon in the operating room, performing observable, technical behaviors. Travel may be required.Board Certified Specialty in Orthopedics certification (BCS-O) required within 1 year of eligibility.

Essential Functions

  • Triage patients as directed by physicians, and other providers. Evaluates patients’ physical condition, response and progress to treatment, and discusses with appropriate provider. Provides patient instruction in conjunction with physicians, and other providers. Develop and review patient home exercise programs.

  • Facilitates efficient and effective patient flow through the clinic utilizing professional ability and independent judgement.

  • Documents care consistent with documentation guidelines, and patient chargeable items/ services according to standards. Administers medication, and injections to patients in accordance with licensure and policy.

  • Interfaces with student athletes, parents, physicians, athletic trainers, and auxiliary medical personnel to analyze, interpret, or make deductions from varying facts and circumstances of athletes’ condition status exercising discretion and independent judgement when appropriate.

  • Maintain clean and safe patient environment, work area, equipment, and communicates any equipment malfunctions to appropriate department/unit personnel.

  • Reads pertinent literature, attend meetings and educational classes, and participate in professional associations as appropriate.

  • Must exhibit assist behaviors, which include, but not limited to, prolonged concentration level, attention to detail, high degree of mental awareness and expert technical abilities.

  • Under the supervision of the surgeon, assists the surgeon by performing observable, technical behaviors, included but not limited to maintaining sterile field, positioning, prep, draping, applying routine dressings, retracting tissue, positioning arthroscope, performing suction, tissue handling, wound exposure, hemostatis, manipulating surgical instruments and wound closure.

Qualifications

  • Required: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent Athletic Training or related field

  • Required: Master's Degree or equivalent Completion of a CAATE approved athletic training education program or educational equivalent

  • Preferred: Vocational/Technical Post Professional Orthopedic Athletic Training Residency

  • Successful completion of competency based orientation program: Required

  • 2 years of relevant experience Related and progressively more responsible experience in all aspects of athletic training specific to a Orthopedic clinic: Required

  • CRT-Athletic Trainer, Certified - BOC Board of Certification and Accreditation Upon Hire required

  • LIC-Athletic Trainer License - STATE_MI State of Michigan Upon Hire required

  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association 90 Days required Or

  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - ARC American Red Cross 90 Days required

  • CRT- Board Certified Specialty in Orthopedics certification (BCS-O) required within 1 year of eligibility.
