American Express is seeking a Data/Applied ML Engineer for our Digital (Web & Mobile) Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team in Bangalore. This role is critical for someone adept at applying existing machine learning models to enhance digital operations, including building a cloud-based data lake for telemetry and establishing comprehensive data pipelines. Your contributions will be key in driving efficiency and effectiveness in our service delivery and issue resolution processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Optimize and apply existing machine learning models for anomaly detection to improve system reliability and performance.

  • Construct and maintain a scalable cloud-based data lake for aggregating telemetry data (metrics, traces, logs).

  • Develop robust data pipelines using Apache Spark for efficient data ingestion into the data lake.

  • Design insightful visualizations for Service Level Objectives (SLOs), error budgets, and other key performance indicators using visualization technologies.

  • Employ General AI and Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques for analyzing card member incidents and facilitating automated solutions.

  • Stay current with the latest developments in vector databases and Rapid Application Development (RAD) methodologies.

  • Collaborate with various teams to ensure alignment of data solutions with business goals and SRE principles.

Education, Experience & Knowledge/Skills:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field.

  • At least 5 years of experience in data engineering, with a strong focus on cloud technologies and data analytics.

  • Proven ability in applying machine learning, AI, and NLP.

  • Experience with Apache Spark and managing cloud-based data lakes and pipelines.

  • Proficiency in programming languages, particularly Java,

  • Experience with data visualization technologies .

  • Knowledge of vector databases and RAD methodologies.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to adapt in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, capable of working effectively across diverse teams.
