General Summary: Under immediate supervision and from detailed verbal and written instructions, conducts routine and non-routine testing of airbag inflators and related components.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

General:

  • Perform regular preventive maintenance on lab equipment.

  • Report any malfunctions of lab equipment to supervisor.

  • Ensure all equipment that requires calibration is up to date with calibration.

  • Maintains documentation of all tests performed, and reports the data in the system properly.

  • Ability and willingness to perform moderate physical tasks, such as lifting, carrying, bending, continuous standing, etc.

  • Calibrates, fabricates, troubleshoots to the component level and maintains test equipment.

  • Accurately report and enter test data

  • Set-up and operate various manual machine tools, such as lathes, milling machines, drill presses, surface grinders, etc.

  • Identifies discrepancies, process/recycle tested parts and waste.

For Ballistic area:

  • Sets up and performs production and basic engineering automobile airbag tests.

  • Conducts pre and post-deployment inspections of inflators and components for physical integrity; may examine parts for conformance with dimensional specifications.

  • Participates in installing inflators to be used in test fixtures, connecting valves, pumps, hydraulic, mechanical or electrical controls, cabling and indicating instruments.

  • Identifies discrepancies, process/recycle tested parts and waste.

  • Troubleshoot and repair of industrial automation equipment, including knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, mechanical systems (cams, gears, etc.), and industrial electronics.

  • Monitors controls and instruments, while recording test data for engineer’s use.

For Metallurgy area:

  • Perform metallurgy preparation including cross section, mounting, grinding, polishing and etching.

  • Perform routine and non-routine mechanical testing using Instron

  • Conducts weld evaluation and measurement using microscopes

Abilities:

Excellent communications skills, both oral and written. Able to operate PC based programs Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Excellent attention to detail. Must be able to pass Hazardous Materials Training class.

Education/Experience:

High School Diploma/GED

Some College towards technical degree preferred and/or*

0-1 years related experience within a test environment operating and troubleshooting hazardous fluid/gas/propellant or electronic systems.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to repeatedly push, pull and lift 40 lbs. From floor to above shoulders.

ZF Mesa Operations screening process includes a 10 panel substance abuse screening test that includes testing for THC.
