Position Summary The Pharmacy Technician Specialist for Controlled Substances advances the mission of the Pharmacy Department by providing a high-quality service resource via unique or specialized pharmacy tasks. They work in a partnership role with Pharmacists and Pharmacy leaders to bring a greater amount of focus to bear on support of mission critical areas where staff are uniquely trained or authorized. The Pharmacy Technician Specialist for Controlled Substances participates in compliance activities involving all relevant DEA requirements, around ordering, receiving, dispensing, administration, discrepancies, waste activities, and returns. Under the direction of the pharmacist-in-charge and/or pharmacy leadership, conducts high-risk drug diversion monitoring, surveillance and audit activities across the pharmacy enterprise. This includes conducting in-depth analyses of all movement of controlled substances for the prevention of diversion and to support DEA compliance, investigation, and medication use. In addition, will assist with required inventory, training of other staff on controlled substance technology (i.e., CII Safe ), and assist with the development of standard operating procedures for controlled substance management. As directed by a pharmacist or pharmacy supervisor, may be involved with compounding injectable or non-injectable stock or patient-specific doses. Other relevant duties as assigned. Staff in this position are comfortable with autonomy. Location (e.g. remote or on-site): On-site. For some roles, remote work may be appropriate. Qualifications - Internal License/Certification/Registration: *Registered Pharmacy Technician in the state of Minnesota (required) *Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) within 1 year of hire (required) Education: *Associate or higher college graduate degree, or foreign equivalent, or five years of experience in a pharmacy environment or healthcare industry (required) Experience: *Three years working in a pharmacy environment or a combination of equivalent experience suitable for preparation of the individual to work within the specialized pharmacy service (required) *Experience working within a pharmacy computer system or electronic health record (required) *Leadership experience (preferred) Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: *Constitutional skills: able to work independently and prioritize, responsible, adaptable, trusted, creative, problem solver, critical thinker, time management, organized, reliable, dependable, strong work ethic, detail-oriented, focused, committed to learning, team player, ownership *Consistently self-directed, independent and autonomous in areas of responsibility *Strong interpersonal skills, written and verbal *Comfortable working with computer programs, such ask MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams) *Experience with dispensing, sterile and non-sterile compounding, and hazardous substances (preferred) Physical De ands Please click here to view the Physical Demands The posted pay range represents rates for a grouping of multiple jobs within a salary grade. We carefully consider a wide range of factors including but not limited to market indicators for the specific role, the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate, and organizational needs. Base pay is just one piece of the total rewards program offered by Children's Minnesota.
