Continuous Improvement Engineer - Morgantown, PA

Full Time / Direct Hire - $90,000 to $125,000

Job Description

SUMMARY

  • Proof of US citizenship, nationality, and/or permanent resident status is required to comply with export and import laws and regulations.

  • Develop and implement optimal, cost-effective manufacturing processes/methods/strategies in accordance with product specifications and quality standards.

  • Recommend and implement improvements to production processes, methods, and controls.

  • Prioritize process improvement, problem resolution, project management, and employee training.

  • Lead Lean Six Sigma continuous improvement teams for manufacturing and support processes.

  • Goal-oriented, data-driven, with a strong sense of urgency.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provide enthusiastic leadership and guidance to the site Continuous Improvement program.

  • Work with Project Engineer Manager to define and scope improvement opportunities.

  • Facilitate the identification, design, testing, and implementation of process improvements to meet production, safety, cost improvement, and environmental goals.

  • Identify opportunities for quality improvement with customers in conjunction with operations and technical departments.

  • Train and lead plant personnel in Continuous Improvement methodologies.

  • Influence, gain commitment, and leverage best practices across all levels of the organization.

  • Utilize Lean Six Sigma methodology for problem-solving and process improvements.

  • Plan and lead Waste Elimination (Lean Six Sigma) activities using the DMAIC methodology.

  • Lead and facilitate continuous improvement teams and Kaizen events.

  • Implement visual factory practices, including 5S, standardized work, and performance metric tracking.

  • Use data to drive improvements and implement control plans to sustain improvements.

REQUIRED ABILITIES

  • Communicate effectively and interact with all levels of the organization.

  • Work in a 24/7 manufacturing environment.

  • Accept weekend and holiday assignments as required.

  • Work overtime as needed, collaborate with back-shift personnel, solve problems, and respond to emergencies.

  • Conduct all operations in a safe and clean environment, enforcing all safety rules and regulations.

  • Work proactively to minimize accidents.

  • Conduct all operations professionally and businesslike.

  • Maintain a program of professional growth through seminars, courses, online resources, trade magazines, books, journals, etc.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Competencies:

  • Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Present information effectively and respond to questions from managers, employees, customers, and the public.

  • Mathematical Skills: Work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference using Excel and Minitab/JMP.

  • Reasoning Ability: Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions using methodologies such as DMAIC, PDCA, 8D.

Education and Experience:

  • Four-year college or university degree.

  • Computer proficiency with MS Office is required.

  • Excellent leadership skills with demonstrated ability to collaborate and motivate others to achieve results.

  • Strong facilitation, communication, and presentation skills.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience using Lean Tools – Value Stream Mapping, Visual Factory/5S, Total Productive Maintenance, etc.

  • Experience with FMEA and Root Cause Analysis techniques.

  • Experience with MES, Microsoft Power BI, and databases is desired.

  • SPC and Six Sigma experience is desired.

  • Metals experience is helpful but not required.

  • Must be willing to travel (typically less than 10%).
