Maintenance Mechanic
The Nightingale-Bamford School is seeking to hire a maintenance mechanic. Under general supervision of the Director of Building Operations and Capital Management, the maintenance mechanic will perform general and preventative maintenance services and related repairs to the school building, machinery and equipment. The actual work hours will be either 6:00 AM - 2:00 PM or 2:00 PM – 10:00 PM but must be able to work weekends and holidays as needed. This is an non-exempt, salaried position.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but are not limited to):
Perform assigned general maintenance duties required to maintain and repair school building, machinery and equipment, involving some skill in carpentry, plumbing, painting and/or the electrical or mechanical trades
Assure that jobs specified on maintenance requests and work orders are completed satisfactorily
Perform daily inspection of building
Maintain tools and equipment required for maintenance tasks and inventory of equipment and supplies
Make emergency repairs within the area of knowledge and responsibility
Maintain required records of hours/materials expended for each job
Attend special training classes and sessions to increase skill in various crafts
Inspect machinery in operation to assure proper functioning, including checking pressures and temperatures as required
Setup event spaces as required
Perform space/area setup and breakdown as required daily
Perform cleaning/janitorial work as needed
Garbage and snow removal when necessary
Perform other related duties as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Trade or vocational school graduation and two years of experience in one or more of the building trades preferred, or experience equal to four years
NYC Fire Safety Directors license required (must obtain within 6 months of hire)
Knowledge and ability to operate tools of the trade
Willingness to learn new skills and methods
Must be able to wear and use appropriate personal protective equipment as necessary
Valid motor vehicle operator's license if required
Ability and willingness to work with all members of the professional community
Flexible, self-motivated, detail-oriented problem-solver able to handle multiple priorities simultaneously in a high pressure atmosphere; excellent communications skills a must.
Ability to read, write, and speak the English language sufficiently to understand and process all required paperwork and to communicate effectively with colleagues, students and visitors if necessary
Ability to work weekends/overtime as needed
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Sufficient stamina to perform all essential job functions for a normal eight-hour shift and up to a 16-hour shift in an emergency, with a meal break included in the shift
Ability to walk the school property, climb stairs
Ability to sit and stand for long periods of time
Sufficient strength and physical dexterity to perform duties and responsibilities of the job, including heavy work with exposure to inclement weather for prolonged periods of time
Sufficient strength and flexibility for stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, lifting, climbing, carrying over 50 lbs, and other movements
Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
SALARY RANGE:
$45,000 - $55,000
