YRC Freight Mgr–Operations Technology in Overland Park, Kansas

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for managing a group of Engineers and Product Owners who lead efforts aligned with YRC Freight’s Strategic Operations Roadmap. Coordinate with IT department leads and other Engineers to ensure strategic applications and IT are developed with appropriate functionality and performance. Facilitate, coach, and mentor others in areas of project management, analytics, industrial engineering and Six Sigma disciplines to drive business value within the Organization through the integration of Technology and Process with YRC Freight’s Operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Plan and supervise the work of professional engineers and technicians to accomplish specific engineering projects.

  2. Collaborate and partner with IT to design, develop, and implement key technology developments

  3. Direct work assignments, scheduling, and reviews of work in progress.

  4. Handle performance reviews, salary recommendations, and coordination of training and development.

  5. Perform a variety of routine tasks that are planned to provide experience and familiarization with the engineering staff, methods, practices, and programs of the organization.

  6. Provide subject matter expert support to achieve goals and successfully complete assigned projects, verify statistical analysis, and Continuous Process Improvement efforts.

  7. Provide subject matter expert support to Product Owners assigned to Agile, SCRUM teams.

  8. Partner with Senior Management, business leaders, subject matter experts, project teams and functional/non-functional partners to develop solutions to critical daily business challenges.

  9. Lead project teams to define project scope, analyze complex variables, identify effective solutions and develop implementation and control plans using appropriate Lean Six Sigma/Industrial Engineering methodologies and tools.

  10. Lead and facilitate cross-functional project teams and communicate the teams' progress to business leadership. Progress will be measured by regularly monitoring performance against defined milestones, as well as improvements in key metrics.

  11. Develop project management expertise and facilitate product ownership decisions through product lifecycle of key software applications within YRC Freight.

  12. Prepare analyses and present information on improvement opportunities to Senior Leadership as well as within the assigned business area where the project resides.

  13. Develop key process and project documentation for assigned efforts.

  14. Identify cross-functional or complex projects and drive projects to achieve maximum results.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or related technical area.

  2. Eight (8) years of Industrial Engineering Experience, Project Management.

  3. Demonstrated strong project management proficiency, including high level and high profile projects.

  4. Experience using MS Office applications (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel).

  5. Effective written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, including to audiences of highly knowledgeable professionals.

  6. Understand sample size calculations for statistical tests and associated risks.

  7. Possesses strong influencing, coaching, and facilitative skills with the ability to bring teams together to achieve targets and goals.

  8. Willingness to travel up to 25% and nights and weekends when required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. MBA

  2. Three (3) years of experience managing teams of technical experts (Engineers, Programmers, etc).

  3. Three (3) years of experience working in Agile teams.

  4. Project management certification.

WORKING CONDITIONS


This job operates in a professional office environment indoors. Routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS


The position requires the ability to spend long hours sitting or standing while using office equipment and computers. Ability to perform repetitive tasks such as typing and keying. Occasional lifting, pushing/pulling, carrying 10 lbs of supplies and materials is required.
