YRC Freight Sr BI/Database Developer in Overland Park, Kansas

JOB SUMMARY

Under limited supervision, complete large, high-complexity projects. Lead development efforts for assigned subject area. Develop, document, and implement technical designs. Communicate with customers, management, and team.

Responsible for the optimization and performance improvements of new and existing code base including design and development of batch and near-real time data integration processes, Business Intelligence (BI) solutions, development in heterogeneous database environments, and navigation through complex systems configurations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Ensure accuracy and integrity of the data and applications through analysis, coding, writing clear documentation and problem resolution.

  2. Analyze data structures content and ensure performance validity.

  3. Design, code, test, and implement data integration solutions using modern techniques and programming languages.

  4. Design, code, test, and implements BI solutions, including reports, dashboards, and notifications in support of the business requirements.

  5. Provide high-level database development assistance in creating specific applications for businesses.

  6. Participate in research and apply innovation at all levels of the software development process.

  7. Work on multiple projects simultaneously and manage competing priorities.

  8. Work harmoniously in a cross-functional teams including IT and business resources.

  9. Function as technical lead and Subject Matter Expert (SME) on assigned projects.

  10. Perform the role of the principal designer responsible for complex systems and their subsystems employing deep knowledge of current technology and tools as well as relevant systems that are already existing.

  11. Act as a coach or mentor to less experienced team members.

  12. Provide excellent customer service by responding to and assisting with resolving issues and system outages.

  13. Partake in production support activities and processes.

  14. Lead development standards reviews and renovation efforts.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  1. Bachelor’s degree specializing in computer science or equivalent work experience required.

  2. Five (5) or more years of experience with Transact-SQL, SSIS, SSRS, Stored Procedures, Views, etc.

  3. Five (5) or more years work experience specializing in transforming XML, Flat files, or other delimited formats into RDBMS. MS SQL Server experience is required.

  4. Five (5) or more years working experience in a database development environment.

  5. Sound knowledge of traditional as well as agile software development methodologies.

  6. Ability to apply Database Design Principles (OLTP).

  7. Experience with C# and SQL CLR stored procedures.

  8. Experience with SSAS (Tabular and Multidimensional)

  9. Strong MS PowerBI experience.

  10. Strong ability to carry out research and innovation.

  11. Sound knowledge and experience working with software application, database design, and BI ideas.

  12. Highly effective working in a team as well as working independently.

  13. Demonstrated good oral and written communication skills.

  14. Demonstrated strong initiative and organization skills.

  15. Demonstrated strong customer service and interpersonal skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Experience with Service Broker.

  2. Oracle RDBMS experience is a plus.

  3. Experience with one or more scripting language(s) such as PowerShell or Python.

  4. Knowledge of Git or TFS as well as common branching strategies and workflows.

WORKING CONDITIONS


This job operates in a professional office environment indoors. Routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS


The position requires the ability to spend long hours sitting or standing while using office equipment and computers. Ability to perform repetitive tasks such as typing and keying. Occasional lifting, pushing/pulling, carrying 10 lbs of supplies and materials is required.
