Incumbents perform duties related to maintaining the operations of an assigned mechanical system by performing established preventative maintenance, troubleshooting operational issues, and installing and inspecting systems. Work is primarily non-routine in nature due to calls for service and the variety of assigned projects. Incumbents communicate with other University staff to schedule and plan projects. Incumbents will be responsible for coordinating project steps with other trades and performing all levels of troubleshooting and emergency repair. This is an essential position with the expectation of reporting to work during declared administrative leaves and administrative holidays, including campus closures due to the inclement weather.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Install, maintain, and repair heating, ventilating, air conditioning and steam distribution equipment and systems to optimize energy use.

  • Operate a variety of equipment such as hand tools, iPad, and diagnostic hardware to perform work.

  • Install, maintain and repair computerized electronic pneumatic and digital direct control devises related to HVAC and heat control.

  • Requisition material and supplies from stockroom, call vendors to discuss needs for parts and supplies, and recommend purchases and suppliers.

  • Maintain electronic/pneumatic testing equipment.

  • Respond to a full range of calls for service in assigned skilled trade.

  • Coordinate repairs and maintenance with University departments and other skilled trades departments to schedule work.

  • May perform maintenance in multiple skilled trades.

    Qualifications:

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) and ability to obtain appropriate certification or license

  • Proven ability to follow verbal and written instructions

  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision

  • The ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects

  • Valid driver’s license

  • At least three years of HVAC or other trades-related work experience.
