Overview
The Research and Development Engineer 1, Bench Testing position requires a technically sound engineer with electrical engineering aptitudes. This position is responsible for evaluating the basic safety and essential performance of medical electrical equipment, the compatibility of medical devices in the MRI environment, visibility during imaging (fluoroscopy, ultrasound, endoscopy), and other mechanical and electrical properties.
Responsibilities
The four primary roles of this position include:
- Feasibility testing to support the product development of medical devices and medical electrical equipment;
- Design validation and verification testing to support medical device regulatory approval;
- Post-market device evaluation to support clinical and/or marketing activities; and
- Developing and validating novel test methods
Other activities may include, but are not limited to:
- Maintenance of controlled documentation, including written protocols, data forms, and reports;
- Test plan development;
- Standard committee involvement;
- Research related to defining clinically relevant test conditions; and
- Collaboration with global engineering teams on design file documents, such as test plans.
Qualifications
- B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in electrical or biomedical engineering (or comparable);
- A hard-working, enthusiastic, detail-oriented person with strong written and verbal communication skills, record-keeping, and interpersonal skills;
- Must be able to work in a team setting and must be willing to be trained;
- Previous experience with benchtop medical device testing, such as IEC 60601, preferred;
- Experience with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and/ or ISO 17025 requirements, preferred;
- Familiarity with test method validation and statistics preferred;
- Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. Cook does not intend to provide sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B or TN status) for this employment position.
